Knit your friend, your mom, your special guy or gal a Condom Amulet. Crochet, if you prefer. Amulets have been used in cultures worldwide to bring luck, to ward off evil. Colorful yarn, beads, buttons, you see it all in the designs the five of us created. Only the beginning.
Your Condom Amulet can be posted here, when
1) You post a picture of your amulet on your own blog... why you made it ("Hey, Mom, someone told me this is a great way to use leftover yarn!"), friends' responses.
2) In your post include links to community resources where you live--HIV/AIDS service providers, organizations promoting Safe Sex in high schools, college or community programs.
3) Send your email with my own amulet in the subject line. Include your name, a link to your site, and a .jpg of your amulet.
Your Condom Amulet will appear here, along with a link to the your own blog page where you wrote about it, so you become part of the this blogzine!
4) Next, I'd like to know if you have made your own paper zine about the project. Mine is a folded-in-half sheet of 8 1/2 x 11" paper, photocopied in black and white. The history of the project and names of my contributor friends are inside with a link to this blog.
Yours could have more pages-- include your own amulet creations, your friends amulets--maybe a record of how you used it/how people responded to it. Let me know if this experience has given you other ideas on ways to raise consciousness about Safe Sex--through fiber.
My email address is [email protected]. I look forward to hearing from you very soon.
